About Me
|
Hola. Me llamo Jenny McKenzie.
Hello, my name is Jenny McKenzie. I am from Texas originally, but I have lived in Durango for 10 years. Before coming to Animas, I worked in wilderness therapy, family support services for immigrant families, and, most recently, as a Spanish teacher in Ignacio. In my free time, I like to cook, work in the garden, spend time with friends, ski, go camping, walk in the woods, read and travel. |
Why Animas? |
I chose to teach at Animas because I wanted a new challenge. I wanted to learn more about Project Based Learning, work with inspiring staff, and be pushed by students. I love that this is a place where teachers and students are thoughtful, intentional, inclusive, and, of course, silly.

Why Spanish?Contact me |
Knowing Spanish has changed my life! It has allowed me to see the world, make connections with people, find jobs, appreciate new foods, and develop a wider perspective about the world that we live in. Learning a language is incredibly challenging, and even I have to put effort into developing fluency. I think this will be a lifelong process, which is both overwhelming and exciting. I know that my students will struggle, will feel discouraged and will feel embarrassed to speak a new language, which is why I try hard to bring trust, support and humor into the classroom. Students, I look forward to supporting YOU on your language learning journey.
